Start sketching effectively and unlock your creative potential

This course focuses on the essential materials, tools and techniques used for creative sketching and how they bring your ideas to life.

With Design Sketching Courses feedback I will show you how to draw three-dimensional objects on paper, controlling perspective, line quality, tone, shade, colour and textures.

The course program consists of various topics/lessons to sketch and manipulate geometric shapes (cubes, planes, cylinders, spheres and organic forms) and concludes with a workshop, where members can try-out their sketching skills on other design objects.

All this can be done in about 4 to 6 weeks and will help you get started in creating better sketch work and more effective communication of ideas.

Program, Course Topics

  • 1º Topic/Lesson; perspective planes and cubic shapes with pens and pencils.
  • 2º Topic/Lesson; ellipses and cylinders with marker pens.
  • 3º Topic/Lesson; spheres and organic forms with pens, pencils and digital rendering.
  • 4º Topic/Workshop; designing, sketching and rendering various products and shapes.

All Topics (Lessons & Course Material) are easy to understand, with step-by-step instruction, images, videos and plenty of personal feedback. Below, you also have my email and Skype address for deeper enquiry and one-on-one.

Member reviews

“While my background is in Architecture, I have always wanted to do Industrial Design. I found “DSW: Essentials” on Design Sketching Courses.com and decided to try it. I was very impressed by how much Jeremy knew about the fundamentals of drawing. He encouraged me to improve my skills even in the smallest areas to make my drawings better over what I had previously been able to do. My drawing skills were really stretched beyond what they had been before I started. Jeremy’s helpful detailed critiques of my work were both informative and encouraging as well. If you are looking for a great course to learn the fundamentals of Industrial Design drawing, or just to improve what skills you already have; then this is one of the best around and I highly recommend it” – Erick Beebe

Enrolment plan (feedback or self-study)

DSW courses have two experience options: (A) with instructor feedback, (B) self-study.

(A) Instructor feedback: access to all course material, guided topics/lessons and personal feedback. If you want my help to make good progress and participate in the feedback group, then this course is for you; following the program with video tutorials, guided lessons and plenty of personal feedback to help improve your skills. The course runs continuously, so you can enrol anytime and set your own pace to upload and complete the work. However, in March, July and December I organise more intensive feedback periods and invite all new members to participate.

(B) Self-study: access to all course material. If you want to work quietly at your own speed and do not need my feedback, then this is another option you can try. Later, if you want to upgrade to the feedback option, then just purchase the Self-study option once more and you’ll be upgraded.

Course information

When you enrol and join the course; within the course homepage you will have a personal project folder to upload your work for my review; encouraging your development by giving you frequent feedback (written and illustrated), so you know exactly where to adjust and improve your sketches. You also have access to your colleagues work, see their progress and exchange feedback with each other.

Since this is an online course, I have access to all your uploaded visuals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; to give constructive feedback and guide you towards better results.

Tools & Materials

It is unnecessary to invest huge amounts of money with materials for this course.  However, it is important to have a range of basic media to attempt and complete these topics.

– Black, white and light blue, pencils (graphite 6B can be used in some cases): e.g. Derwent Studio #32 or #35 or Prisma.
– Thin & Medium felt-tip pens (fineliners): e.g. Pilot / Stabilo.  Heavy felt tip pen: e.g. Papermate Flair M / Pentel Sign Pen / Edding 1200.
