Are you struggling with perspective?

This hands-on course is focussed on sketching simple products in perspective. In four modules you will learn to use various techniques to design, sketch and communicate, linear, cylindrical and combined products in perspective. You will also practice the application of basic shading with markers to express the forms of these products.

Modules

Field trip

In this module you will learn to observe the world around us more consciously. I will take you on a field trip to investigate the basic principles of perspective: e.g. point of view, convergence and foreshortening.

Sketching linear products

The main goal of this module is to learn how to setup your sketches of linear products in perspective. We will also learn how to use markers to help communicate the three-dimensional form of the product in your sketch, and you will learn to train your critical eye.

Sketching cylindrical products

In this module we will focus on cylindrical products. We will investigate the key principles for sketching cylindrical forms in perspective. You will further develop your critical eye to spot common mistakes and make adjustments in your own sketches and you will learn how to use markers to render cylindrical forms and communicate the results in your design sketch.

Sketching combined products

In this last module we will look at what happens when we combine linear and cylindrical geometry in one product. We will cover the major pitfalls and learn how to setup the cylindrical elements in correspondence with the linear product parts.
